As I usually write these film reviews on Facebook these days, "SBG has now seen and liked Old Blockbuster She's Finally Catching Only A Year Or Two Late." Well tonight it's more like "SBG has now seen and... well, seen Prometheus."

tl;dr: "Ridiculous. Prometheus, I fart in your general direction."

The ranting got too long for Facebook so I moved it over here. Given space to run I ran. This won't be very coherent, but I think that's quite appropriate, don't you? (I'm assuming everyone else has already seen it.)

Husband (if he wants to live) usually draws a cartoon for me at Christmas, and on anniversaries and birthdays. For Christmas 2012 he chose to recreate a scene from the film The Thing (1982). Because reasons.

Despite the advent of electronic TV programming, it is still my habit to scan the TV magazine in Saturday's West to see what's coming up and mark things I'd like to watch. I think I started this habit when I went back to study and had to limit my tv to things I *really* wanted to watch - not stuff that happened to be on at the time.

Here's the haul from our second trip to the VideoEzy closing down sale (List the first here). There are a handful here that I wouldn't have bought under normal circumstances, but at $4 it's much like the cost of hire which we'd have been be prepared to gamble.

The local Video Ezy is closing down and has started to sell its stock. Today we picked up a bunch of ex-rental weeklies at 4 for $15 3 for $12.

Despite my best efforts to avoid watching Highlander II, I've just watched it. I'd planned to return it to the DVD library unwatched and unmourned, but as it survived safely forgotten at home not once but twice I figured that the universe was keen for me to experience it.

LJ is theoretically up and kind of working now, but that does not include the ability to upload images to Scrapbook (never a particularly fun experience at the best of times). In theory I could host the next n rock, cat, and stuffed toy photos in Dropbox and link to them from within a post, but I actually want to have my rock pictures in one easily scannable spot. So in lieu of pictures, here are some words.

I've just watched The Last Starfighter (1984) for the first time in a very long time. I'm not sure how many times I watched it on video back in the day, but it was probably a lot. It stood up very well indeed.

I am happy to report that this evening's surprise discovery of cat vomit did not send me over the edge. Granted I've only found the furry sausage part (whomever calls them furballs has clearly never seen one), so there may be more lurking in exciting places around the house. On the bright side (yes, of cat vomit) furry sausages are better out than in, and it was Pumpkin who is generally more tidy about such things than Princess Projectile.

Have achieved much in the last couple of days and am pleased, although am literally shaking from muscle fatigue. Oops. Still, it's been nice to have the option of overdoing things which I've not enjoyed for over a month.

It's been a dot point kind of day, so I'll make less of an effort than usual at grammar. Sometimes I feel obliged; tonight, not so much.

I've just watched the Avatar making-of doc and I am extremely impressed with the real-time render capabilities on set. Any idiot* with a server farm and a few billion hours to spare can render out composited frames, but putting the live action and CG all together on the spot is something else.

In common with large chunks of fandom (now there's an image) I went to the cinema to see the three Star Wars prequels when they first came out. Ever since then I've been meaning to watch them again, for surely it was only the weight of my expectations that made them seem so awful? Yes, III was better than II, and II must have been better than I. But compared to IV, V and VI they were appalling.

I never did watch them again, despite multiple opportunities to do so. The re-release of Star Wars IV: A New Hope* didn't exactly boost my faith in George Lucas, so I was left with my bitter memories of the new trilogy unsullied by repeat viewings. I haven't yet managed to watch The Phantom Menace again all the way through, but last night I bravely parked myself on the couch and watched The Attack of the Clones and the start of Revenge of the Sith, finishing the latter this afternoon.

So, here are some of my deeply disorganised thoughts on Star Wars II and III. I figure the organised thoughts have long since been taken care of by other people.

I don't mind seeing a movie alone, but sitting through the trailers alone is Just Wrong. So here we are.

Avatar was, in a word, pretty. On balance I liked it, but it wasn't a complete triumph by any means.
