A small day, but a better one than yesterday. I spent most of it lying about but in the cracks managed to achieve one or two things:

Somewhere between 3 and 4AM I failed to sight any meteors. Once back in bed I let myself sleep in then got another 3 hours in at work before I started limping. This whole sitting business appears to be much more complicated than necessary, but I'm enjoying every minute of productivity. At home I had one of those slow motion watch-yourself-do-something-stupid moments.

Do tell. )

My much delayed oven resurrection was scheduled (I use the term loosely) for today. It looks like "Some time on Saturday; he'll call you half an hour before" translates to a call at 7:36AM and a 15 minute warning. He got to see my dressing gown and slippers.

Back on Feb 7 my oven did a bad thing involving apparently melting components and much acrid smoke. I've been putting off chasing up the warranty and repairs etc because I knew it would be A Pain, so I sealed the crime scene and waited to get better so I could face the music.

Earlier this evening I got all adventurous and tried to oven-roast some chickpeas. Although the recipe called for up to an hour in the oven I took a peek after about 10 minutes. In my smoke-filled kitchen with frightening orange light in the oven. Eeek.

ETA: Now with added image, because last night all the camera batteries were flat.

...but the view is nice. Yes, I am officially back on the horse and have had a very busy and productive day. As long as I get a good sleep tonight I should be fine for the Swancon committee meeting tomorrow. It's a bit of a hike, but the company is most pleasant and knowledgable. Good source of hugs too.

But today... )

Well

I have been Informed that my blinds will be installed tomorrow between 8 and 9 am. Good thing I don't have a life, eh?

My not unreasonable response "Do I have a choice?" was met with stony silence*. That would be a no then.

I am yet to recover my light and fire. Damn gas shortage/fatigue thingie. I am aware that the presence of my particular brand of light and fire generally predicates some form of stupid behaviour from the joy of it all, but I'd quite like to have that option.

Got some painting done though )

Eucalyptus slimline venetians and silverleaf verticals are now winging their way towards my kitchen and I *duck*, courtesy of Westral and another big bag o' cash.

Another painting session in the kitchen this morning, including the first bit of second coat which is very exciting. My walls make me smile :-)

I made a solid start on painting the kitchen today. Perhaps a little *too* solid, for I didn't stop when I knew I should have, so the neck and shoulders may kick back a little over the next few days. Or maybe sooner :-(

But it's just the kind of activity I've had so much trouble with for several years, so yay me!

But there were compensations )

Fibro and depression have conflicting requirements. The only real treatment for inflamed nerves is enforced rest and heat treatment and whatever chemical pain relief options are available. Not wishing to court zombiehood--with deepest respect to all zombie readers--this leaves me with paracetamol. Right.

To the depression. Depression attacks my will to move, to act, to live a life. It makes me want to rest, do nothing, curl up somewhere warm and soft, and hide. The best response to depression of this type is to buck the trend and get up, do things, make an effort, push the envelope. Any little feeling of motivation is to be encouraged into maximum productivity.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

Good for you, but I should warn it takes me quite a while to thrash out the implications. )

Big domestic goddess day today.

The exciting details. Contains traces of semi-naked strapping young men. )

ETA: Some pix added, but sadly no lotto win. Or squirrel pix.

Ow.

With some trepidation I have just wielded a number of pointy metallic objects in the very close vicinity of electrical outlets.

IOW I just screwed the kitchen power point faces back onto the newly tiled walls. It looks much better without bare wiring hanging in open air.

[livejournal.com profile] kae_dash may have blinked and missed it, but I popped in to Exomod today to wave hello. I was in the region to drop off another Swancon reciept book at Planet Books (a division of Planet Everything Inc). It's not that I don't love you K, but it was lunchtime and I hate to disturb people at work and potentially piss off their customers.

We have a tiler beavering away in the kitchen whilst I cower in the bedroom with Husband and three cats. He is very old, and has borrowed Husband for more than a few bits of help, some of which involved a jackhammer. Husband is not a jackhammer kind of guy.
