At the end of January 2015 I will allow my membership of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) to lapse. It's true that for the last couple of years I was only paying discount membership rates because of my employment/health status, and during that time I rarely if ever attended branch events. But before that I was an active member of the society, and I'd worked hard to be accepted as a member. At my peak I was a Certified Computer Professional (MACS CPP), a professional accreditation similar to being a Certified Practising Accountant – not a bad effort for an Arts graduate.

[Note: The standard of writing in this post is embarrassingly poor, I know. I was better when I did it for a living, honest, but now I'm just too tired.]

Describing the current state of play would take way too long, but I should recall the results of yesterday’s visit to Dr T my psychiatrist.

It's time for another Pretty Rock Empire update so I can keep track of what's going on. Think of this as an annual report, and mock me for my poor sense of timing. I've just watched Doctor Who, so it seems entirely appropriate. So: Pretty Rocks on Frocks is the fabric design division of Pretty Rock Designs, existing for now on the fabric print-to-order site Spoonflower.com. (For now you'll need to click the "Designs - Not For Sale" link in the left column to see anything.)

This evening I was wildly overjoyed that I managed to go to an Australian Computer Society (ACS) branch meeting. It's been a very long time since I've managed it, and have missed some really great topics/lectures. But tonight's "The Art and Science of Diagramming: Communicating Effectively Using Diagrams" was a subject very close to my heart, so I poured on the painkillers and caffeine to get myself there.

I have been remiss in reporting progress on Cymbalta, but things have certainly been happening. I'll try and record as much of that as possible, and maybe write about my trip to the Big Bad City today. (Apologies for the lack of linear coherence in this post - I'm not feeling quite *that* well yet.)

::This started in a rambly fashion but quickly became a post about the current state of the pretty rock pictures. I've left in the rambly bits Because I Can.::

I am way behind in blogging. Take away the odd pretty rock post and I've been very quiet here indeed. Not that I've been short of material, but I have been thoroughly seduced by the low cost of entry and responsive audiences over at Twitter and Facebook. I'm here now because I have a cold that only increases in ferocity and irritability when I attempt to sleep, so I decided to make blog while the nose runs.

Things happened today. It was a better day than yesterday. Pain still pretty bad, but somewhere in the afternoon I suddenly felt more hopeful about life, which helps me to cope with the pain, so it's the best order of events.

Am most happy to report that I got to attend this evening's ACS (Australian Computer Society) meeting featuring a presentation/workshop by Dwayne Read of Strategic Systems re Agile methods of estimating for software development projects. It's close to a year since my last one.

Today I spontaneously followed a link from a friend's blog and discovered that the Wordpress account for stephbg is not available, although it looks like someone is just cybersquatting. I found myself on a page that allowed me to check the rest of the stephbg domains and discovered that they were all available, including http://www.stephbg.com. So I bought it.

The microscope arrived yesterday, but would you believe I've been too busy working to play and post pictures? 8 1/2 hours chargeable in 2 days baby! But here, have some new and improved pretty rock pictures:

Had a very big day of working from home today, so much so that I forgot to move around enough and am a bit creaky as a result. Isn't that fabulous? (Tip: Yes) Also: money!

Went with Husband for the second (and hopefully last) time to the local Video Ezy closing down sale and acquired *cough* a few more titles. List to be posted separately. Then it was down to Hillary's boat harbour again for coffee, solar radiation, sculpture, and wildlife.

I've been slowly but surely rearranging the non-feline pretty things in the loungeroom--just for the change of scenery--and I've discovered something unexpected: I don't have any blue things.

I checked in with my client today as I do on occasion, but instead of the usual take-care-get-well-we-miss-you response it was the inevitable I'm Sorry But We Need To Replace You.

Oh.

Had a really good day today. Started with a trip into work and did 2 1/2 hours of the WIP plus a bit of planning and organisation for The Future. Felt very stiff and sore by the end of it, but pleased with progress.

If lj will permit me to speak, today I went to the office for two billable hours. And possibly broke something. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
