My efforts to connect to the intertubes are being thwarted at every turn. It's getting messier by the day so I thought it would be best to do a recap. Bonus points if I can actually post! (ETA It only took 2 attempts.) I've been on dialup speed for a month now and it's very depressing.

I have just sent the following letter of complaint to my ISP Three regarding the collapse of their mobile broadband service following a merger with Vodafone. I don't do this sort of thing often; I find it exhausting, and that's starting from a position of already exhausted. Let's see what happens.

Today Yesterday I had the kind of day that pretty much demands a blog post, if only for the purposes of propping up my indeed quite dodgy memory. There were thrills and spills, new toys, broken toys, technical trickery, rather too much time on the phone to all the wrong people, and something else that escapes me, but may yet return in the process of writing this post. In which case I'll probably come back and edit that last bit and you'll never know about the lapse.

Or not.

ETA: Now I remember. I discovered that one of the cats had vomited on one of my favourite books. A paperback.

And now it's the next day and I'm lost and rambling. This is a bit long.

I ordered something very important on June 20 and it has not yet arrived. Today marks 17 business days elapsed since processing confirmation, which normally you'd expect to fall within the 4-6 business days suggested by the site as an appropriate delivery window. Maybe not, my maths is not really on fire today.

Sparky fun

Visits from tradesmen are always interesting, in the Chinese curse sense. Today's electrician's visit was rather information dense so I thought it best to record it here. And, you know, complain a little.

Dear Universe,
You've been shovelling some particularly unpleasant major life-and-death shit in the direction of some friends of mine, and I must say it's making me more than a little cross. I know from experience that asking you to leave off with the big bad things is a waste of time, and not much can deter you from your little games. However, I have a proposal: whatever you had planned for my friend, lay off her and kick it to me. Double it if you like, but leave her the hell alone.

Seraphinite is beautiful stuff. It was discovered relatively recently so it's not all that common in shops, but it makes beautifully patterned polished stones for jewellry. The reason it's called Seraphinite is because the patterns resemble wings, in gloriously gleaming shades of green and silver. Yes, like recent features pietersite and chaoite it's another chatoyant rock, and a complete bitch. Satan was a fallen angel; I think this is his favourite stone.

I should have done this yesterday, but in the tradition of Interesting Medical Conditions I was in no condition yesterday to report on my Interesting Medical Condition. So this is a bit of a catchup.

For those who came in late, in 2005/2006 (I think - I'm a bit vague about dates) I had shingles in one of the major nerves down my right leg. Unfortunately it was diagnosed late and treated improperly for a few days so it ended up being a bad case that left me with especially stubborn chronic illness and posthepetic neuralgia. But while I get pain in all sorts of places from the fibromyalgia (which I've had for much longer) fortunately the neuralgia is mostly dormant.

Mostly.

B12 FAIL

About 4 months ago I had my first B12 shot in ages. I'm supposed to have them every three months (about the only concrete advice I've ever been given by the medical profession) but I had to stop because I was having such bad reactions.

Cheap crap

Last year I bought a new suitcase for Swancon. It was by necessity cheap and nasty and acquired from Red Dot, but my previous cheap and nasty suitcase had also come from there and had survived several years' service, including a trip to Europe without me. I didn't mind; it sent postcards.

This was written as a post to the agomelatine users' group to which I belong, but it's near enough to a progress report to duplicate here for future reference. Warnings for potential depression triggers: I feel like hell.

So I've been ebaying quite a lot of late, to the tune of 12 purchases in the last 31 days. It's OK, I've reached my limit. I'll stop. For a while.

I have to get away from the cats, for a number of reasons. One of those reasons is that I've just dosed them all with flea treatment. I think there's a good chance that flea treatment is bad for me, but the possibility has also arisen that the flea treatment is good for them. Not so much in the "death to fleas" department, but more in the dandruff department.

Accursed whiny creatures.

To be fair, Pumpkin doesn't whine, but he is still counted amongst the damned.

This will be a story in dot points because I am damn tired even by my standards.

That feeling I had last week, that the drugs were driving me beyond my spoon limits? That what I was doing was unsustainable? That feeling was right.

I'm planning to keep this (boring blogging subject) up until I stabilise. It's all a bit of a drag, but the info is so damned useful I can't not do it. Until then every day is a new and exciting adventure inside my invisible friend's body. Hey, you don't have to read it, unless you happen to be my psychiatrist who I'm planning to threaten at gunpoint* until he reads every word of this whole damn process.

Good news: no nausea, nerve pain, or hallucinations (that I'm aware of).

The other kind of news, expressed entirely without clarity )

I Can't Believe It's Not WorldCon kicked off well with a perfectly sized attendance for the venue (i.e. there were enough chairs). FGoH (Furry Guest of Honour) Pumpkin proved that he really does exist IRL and circulated with flair. He allowed himself to be handled by strangers which is all we ask of any GoH.
