stephbg: I made this! (cat herder)

Yes yes I know, this is a post about a TV series called The Paradise and I was disappointed with how it went down so I had to call it “Paradise Lost”. There are rules about this sort of thing, m’kay? It was beyond my control.

Beware: Major spoilers below (but I wouldn’t be the first, grrrr).

Despite the advent of electronic TV programming, it is still my habit to scan the TV magazine in Saturday's West to see what's coming up and mark things I'd like to watch. I think I started this habit when I went back to study and had to limit my tv to things I *really* wanted to watch - not stuff that happened to be on at the time.

I used to experiment on people for a living. This included time spent watching them through a two-way mirror to detect when they would cheat on a task, so it's not a huge stretch that I might find a show like Big Brother interesting.

I haven't done a post about TV for a while, so I thought I'd talk about the surprise gem that is Snog, Marry, Avoid on Friday nights on Ch11 (Perth).

Here's the haul from our second trip to the VideoEzy closing down sale (List the first here). There are a handful here that I wouldn't have bought under normal circumstances, but at $4 it's much like the cost of hire which we'd have been be prepared to gamble.

Have you seen this latest incarnation of the Abdominator? It's called the Ab Circle Pro and requires one to get down on one's knees, spread 'em, then wriggle one's bottom back and forth. It doesn't look foolish at all (results may vary). I believe it serves the design purpose of money elimination and is easy to store.

Much to Husband's dismay I watched the Miss Universe 2010 broadcast this evening. Some things have changed since the last time I paid any real attention. And when was that? Not a clue, but here are some thoughts*.

Glee love

I'm in no condition to write a seriously well considered post about the impact of the TV show Glee on The Youth of Today, and whether it's displaying the most harmful form of tokenism that will destroy the lives, hopes and dreams of thousands of teens. So I will say that I've come to it late, but that Husband and I have decided that we both enjoy watching it for different reasons, and we watch it together.

I am so loving Matt Smith's Doctor Who, and the Weeping Angels still scare my socks off. Little more with itty bitty spoiler. )

I feel like I've watched an awful lot of broadcast free-to-air television this last week, and for some reason I feel the urge to list it. I've got to say the elephant autopsy did rather stand out in my mind, although looking back it was actually the romcom 27 Dresses that bucked the trend. Draw what conclusions you might from my selections. Also, feel free to make suggestions if you think there's something I'm missing.

It's Man vs Wild time!

Husband (fleeing the TV): "Will there be full-frontal male nudity?"

Moi: "Sadly yes, with dixelation. I mean pixelation."

Husband: "I'll take your first answer"

I've just watched a not terribly inspiring or educational documentary on the ABC called I, Psychopath, although to be fair it worked reasonably well as a behind-the-scenes-why-we-couldn't-make-the-documentary DVD extra. One thing, however, caught my attention.

Coming soon, I promise.

I liked the opening ceremony though, to the point where I wasn't thinking about logistics; I was simply enchanted. Nice job Canada.

I happened to be in the right place at the right time to take a look at the ABC kid's program In The Night Garden. I'd heard it was especially weird, although claiming weirdness for children's programming is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel, and besides, I've not got much basis for comparison. But whoa, WTF?
