A week ago I sent my beloved Pumpkin into oblivion. There are many things I’d like to say about him, but I also need to unpack what it was like to end a life. (Triggers, obviously.)

Jan. 1st, 2013 02:52 amJust over a week ago Pumpkin was starting to falter again on a smaller dose of steroids (1ml per day), and so when he got his scheduled Cartrophen shot we consulted with the vet and also put his dosage back up to 2 x 1ml per day. Between the two treatments we expected him to be as he was before - back on his feet most of the time.

Dec. 17th, 2012 11:42 amJust back from the vet where I greeted Dr Laura with a deeply ironic “Hello Stranger!”. She replied that it did seem like a long time since I’d been there last, which was all of three weeks ago. I had been coming weekly for a month before that, so I suppose three weeks can seem like a long time.

Pumpkin - Monday
Nov. 12th, 2012 10:02 pmTook Pumpkin to the vet today as scheduled for the second shot of Cartrophen, and to report that his condition had deteriorated significantly. This left us facing the option that he wouldn't come home but would be put to sleep today.

The Cat Report
Oct. 11th, 2012 10:42 pmIt's that time of year here at Sector 7: annual flu shots for everyone shorter than me. Since all three candidates are getting on a bit, it's also a chance for a spot of maintenance. Cats love it when you change their spark plugs.

Potential Pumpkin Problem
Jun. 20th, 2012 04:09 pmPumpkin has a fleshy lump on his chin, which he's had for many years. When I first showed it to the vet he/she (it's that long ago) delivered the usual lump advice and said not to worry about it unless it started to grow suddenly.

Cat update x3
Oct. 13th, 2011 11:12 amHave just returned from the annual x3 cat vet visit for flu shots and worming. Yes, worming only lasts for 3 months but I've been doing it this way for a lot of years and appear to be getting away with it. Also had everyone's claws trimmed at once by the professionals, to varying degrees of complaint.
