stephbg: I made this! (cat herder)

One of the very few regular outings I get to enjoy is a semi-regular Sunday breakfast with Husband. Mostly we go to Leederville, and when there we habitually go to Giardini's Cafe.

Took a day off the new supplements today because I've been suffering from shortness of breath, erratic heartbeat and nausea that this morning came to a head, shall we say, in spectacular fashion. The swollen throat also means I choke and cough when I lie down. Most of these symptoms are associated with salicylate overload and it's possible I've had too much fruit and veg lately. Silly me, trying to eat a bit more healthily within my limits, but it's mostly been "safe" stuff like potato, celery, and cabbage. Who knows what the supplements are doing to me.

I also had some Clinkers recently which was Very Naughty – food colouring and fruit flavours are definite no-nos. Worse, it was Bad Science to mess with too many variables at once. I have nerd shame.

In Melbourne we stayed at The Hotel Windsor on Spring Street, right over the road from the Victorian parliament house, and oh-so-conveniently exactly at a stop on the city circle free tram route. It was teh awesome.

Before I start, thanks for all your well wishes and expressions of support. They mean a lot to me.

Because Dad is confined to bed we relocated Christmas to the family home this year, making it a BYO catering affair and doing our best to prevent Mum from doing anything. We used the legendary Good China and I believe it survived the experience unscathed once again.

Coles Brand has a surprisingly near-beige fresh chicken soup which I enjoy. Today I felt all creative and decided to stretch it out with a few veges and Things. Sadly a few more of my possessions were harmed in the making of this foodstuff.

A Japanese restaurant has opened at my local shops. I cannot begin to express how happy this makes me.

Japanese food is not very beige, but if I'm selective and restrained I'll be OK. One day soon I may apologise to the pork!

Had a good day today. Did a little work, walked to the shops, and saw the GP for script update and blood test forms.

I have had a nidea. Apart from the relentless inability to move, one of the more irritating symptoms of my condition(s) is the sweating. I sweat buckets; so much so that I've taken to keeping a small hand towel handy because I was using up too many tissues and the cats are not absorbant.

I've been taunted by TV ads for hamburgers of late. We habitually mute the sound on ads, but there's nowhere to hide from pictures of yummy food held up with sticks and sprayed with glycerine. Mmmm. Styled. Unfortunately, just about everything about a proper hamburger is extremely non-beige, so I set about considering a suitable replacement.

Proper pizza uses the following ingredients: tomato, cheese, processed meats, mushrooms, olives, onion, capsicum, anchovies, herbs etc etc. Every single one of them big bad No items for beige. Eating pizza (specifically the Works from Greenwood Pizza) is one of my greatest acts of defiance. I know it's theoretically possible and indeed traditional for a pizza to have fewer ingredients, but even the cheese and tomato basics are banned to me.

As is the way with CFS recoveries, today was not a linear improvement on yesterday, but a pause to rest and consolidate. On that basis I was able to contain my disappointment at being out of action for another day.

The good news is that the right cats ate the right kind of food again today. A combination of tough love, supervision, and pathetic pandering is doing the trick. Unfortunately this return to proper diet is not working quite quickly enough for Cally.

Brief recap: Princess was making herself bleed around the neck by scratching. She was given a cortisone (dexy) shot that seemed to relieve her symptoms. A couple of days later she had a fit, which resulted in me having kittens. Fortunately, no repeat. After the predicted week or so of relief her discomfort began to re-manifest (her fur stood up again and she went back to biting her nails), although not to the same extreme. It is, however, a matter of time.

No, this is still not the post about my party (I have a sneaking suspicion that what happened at the party should probably stay at the party) but I should nake some food/medical notes. There's potential good news in there, which was only revealed by me being bad, so clearly I'm going to have to keep being bad every now and then.
