stephbg: I made this! (cat herder)

Remember when LJ was all velociraptor memes? Of course you do. So, despite the fact that I've posted this "10 things people may not about you" meme in Facebook already, I thought I'd reproduce it here. Apologies for the foul deceit that may have led you to expect new content.

I haven't done a meme for a while, and since I happen to have the current book in progress handy, here we go:

Snarfed from Latest Things. (via lauredhel)

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123. (Or, if a short/picture book or very spoilery, try page 12, or 2.)
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

Comment and I will comment back with a picture of the fictional (or possibly non-fictional) person that most reminds me of you. Then post the same in your journal.

With the added proviso that I am likley to be struck into immobility by the impossible nature of the task and may never respond.

Voice meme

I am attempting to do this vocal recording meme, but at time of writing have not yet figured out how to upload the sound file. Embedding is all very well but I need somewhere to put the thing. I fail at technology. When I do figure it out, I'll put it here. If it takes me six months to figure it out I may be forced to add a time-travelling link from a new post. Oh the shame.

Meme via [livejournal.com profile] drhoz. When in doubt, try it 5 times. Oh what a surprise, I got 5 different answers, some I like better than others.

Take Which Doctor Who companion are you? (girls) today!
Created with Rum and Monkey's Personality Test Generator.
You're Romana!

Silly Doctor. It's adorable, really, how hard he tries. And he is pretty brilliant, you'll give him that. But he always seems to overlook the obvious--including the fact that he's not the only Gallifreyan onboard, thank you very much. You are always calm and collected, and more often than not wonderfully witty, in the face of adversity. The Doctor knows he can count on you, even when you infuriate him!

What kind of topics/entries would you like to see me posting about? Any particular questions you've always wanted to ask me but have resisted because the answer would be a huge essay? Ever want to wind me up and watch me go on a particular topic? Anything you've heard me say, "I should write that entry about XYZ I've been meaning to write" and have been patiently waiting for?

I have a bunch of nice things to write about people, but I want to take my time with this one.

Reply to this post, and I'll tell you one reason why I like you. Then repost this [if you like] and spread the love.

I've been reading friends' renderings of this meme with interest, but avoided doing it myself mainly because my memory is just not organised for this kind of annual reporting. I'm prone to overlook really big ticket items which could prove embarrassing. The obvious solution of reading 12 months of my own blog as research is too hideous to contemplate, so in lieu of research I thought I'd just give it a go.

I have learned and played a modern complex boardgame, as promised to various souls since the beginning of the year at least. [livejournal.com profile] kbpenguin and [livejournal.com profile] kremmen thank you for encouraging me to continue to the fight.

I am now the proud owner of the 2 disc edition of Star Trek (2009). Director's (et al) commentary was very good*, as was the gag reel. Much Trek yet to come yet.

(*) None of this "Let's just enjoy this scene... [long pause]... [toilet flush]. Oh this actress was marvellous" crap, although you really need everyone in the same room at the same time.

Today it was much easier to find something to be happy about. Sector 7 has a new slogan:

Last zombie? YES!
Last banana? NO!

Skip if you're not interested in the explanation. )

I spent today alternating between extreme pain and unconsciousness. This did not make me happy.

So, under extreme duress, the thing that made me happy today was Boris the shark, who continues to give soft cuddly value above and beyond price.

1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this every day for eight days without fail.

1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this everyday for eight days without fail.
3. Tag six of your friends to do the same.

Day 1: I now have a decent quantity of silver gaffer tape. Not duct tape. Not duck tape. Not yellow. Not black. Not pissy supermarket handyman size. Silver. Gaffer. Tape. All is right with the world.

I would be interested in their responses, but respect the free will of the following people:
