stephbg: I made this! (cat herder)

On Friday 13th of June on the day of the full moon I went to Cat Haven and chose a kitten to become part of our family here at Sector 7. We are now a complete cat home again with the maximum number of three kitties as allowed by law. I am a crazy cat lady once more.

The purpose of our recent trip over East was to be present for the wedding of niece C and her partner D in Adelaide. C is Husband’s Brother’s Daughter. (Last year’s wedding was for Husband’s Sister’s Daughter.) This is a rather lopsided account of my attendance and limited impressions.

A week ago I sent my beloved Pumpkin into oblivion. There are many things I’d like to say about him, but I also need to unpack what it was like to end a life. (Triggers, obviously.)

The reason we travelled this September was to attend the wedding of Husband's Sister's Daughter (Niece I) to her longtime partner J. Hey, I&J - good thing I ate the fish at the reception then.

And so we're back, from outer space Adelaide and Melbourne, with many meaty things blog about in the traditional manner. But meaty blogging is a bit beyond me still, for having pushed mightily beyond my boundaries again and again during the trip (and a bonus family thing on Saturday night) I find myself without will or wit. However, I'll try to throw a few discussion points together and see if I manage to expand upon them later in deathless prose.

This is a slideshow I put together of the photos taken during the tower disassembly last Saturday. Small warning - I find the ending terribly sad, but I imagine that's only because I'm so close to it all.

Went to a family wedding down by the Swan River this afternoon, at the Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. In the vernacular of the classic wedding ice-breaker question of "Are you with the Bride or Groom?" I was the Bride's Father's Cousin's Wife (short form "Bride's Cousin" but the whole point of the CWIBQ is to make the answer as long as humanly possible to give the conversation a leg to stand on).

This is the longer version of Dad's story from which a shorter eulogy was derived and read by my sister Judith at the funeral. For the curious (and this one time only), Judith is London-Based Sister, and she flew back today.

This is the text of Dad's eulogy as read by his best mate of 60 years Wally Howse VK6KZ. A lifelong family friend, he is known to me as Uncle Wally and is the only holder of honorary family status.

This post includes my part of the eulogy for Dad spoken at his funeral today (formatted for speech rather than text). There are others to come, and many tributes from friends and colleagues to be recorded here. It was a good service, with about 120 attending and many more apologies. It was standing room only at the chapel.

Before I start, thanks for all your well wishes and expressions of support. They mean a lot to me.

Because Dad is confined to bed we relocated Christmas to the family home this year, making it a BYO catering affair and doing our best to prevent Mum from doing anything. We used the legendary Good China and I believe it survived the experience unscathed once again.

(I don't usually post here in DW, but LJ is down and I had to get this out. There may be technical difficulties. If you're reading this in LJ, a miracle has occurred, and/or it's tomorrow. Hello from the past.)

Some of you know that my Dad has been unwell for a while and that he was recently admitted to hospital for pain management and tests. With his permission I can now tell you the whole situation.
