OK, a smidgen late, but here's the roundup of my latest visit to Dr NF on Monday 23rd September for medication tweaks, with bonus 2 week progress report. Unlikely to be of general interest.

The next post I'm supposed to write is a description of a doctor's appointment some two weeks ago, and the modifications to my medications that arose from that visit. This isn't it, but I've been reminded (hi Mum) that I haven't blogged here in a month and so I thought I'd ramble for a bit at the traditional blogging hour of 1:30 am.

Went for my 6-monthly psychiatrist visit with Dr T today. After my last visit with him in February we went on to collect a very tiny Buffy to take home. Today had no such reward and left me feeling very depressed.

It's no wonder I'm so attracted to rocks – it looks like minerals are going to play a significant role in my next phase of treatment. This is an information-rich post about recent medical findings and treatments, intended primarily for my own records, so it might be a little light in the entertainment stakes (unless you're my Middle Sister who seems to enjoy this stuff).

Today was an odd day, but of the kind I've experienced before so at least I had an idea what was going on. Mostly.

Too tired for the multimedia extravaganza this should be, but hopefully I'll get the basics.

It seemed to take forever but on Thursday last I finally went to see Dr NF about my Pyroluria diagnosis and hopefully general improvement.

I note to my surprise that it's 9 days since I updated LJ, but I have been keeping better records over on FB, complaining vociferously on twitter, and taking rather more scientific notes in my little drug notebook, so all is not lost. Not *quite* all.

Well, supplements, but meds is easier to type.

Took a day off the new supplements today because I've been suffering from shortness of breath, erratic heartbeat and nausea that this morning came to a head, shall we say, in spectacular fashion. The swollen throat also means I choke and cough when I lie down. Most of these symptoms are associated with salicylate overload and it's possible I've had too much fruit and veg lately. Silly me, trying to eat a bit more healthily within my limits, but it's mostly been "safe" stuff like potato, celery, and cabbage. Who knows what the supplements are doing to me.

I also had some Clinkers recently which was Very Naughty – food colouring and fruit flavours are definite no-nos. Worse, it was Bad Science to mess with too many variables at once. I have nerd shame.

Hope is poison. Today was a rough day as I tried to continue the momentum from yesterday regarding my new push to health.

Was fortunate last week to pick up a cancellation so was able to see Dr Nigel (psychologist) this morning, rather than wait another two weeks, and he gave me my Pyroluria results. In a nutshell, I unambiguously have Pyroluria: where Normal is <10 and Elevated is >15, I have 24.9. So what happens now?

Timing is everything. When I went for my Pyroluria test earlier this week I mistimed my hydration, and one other thing. This is a post about depression and may be more than a bit incoherent. Is it? I can't tell - that's the point.

So today was the day I took myself and my precious precious Pyroluria test paperwork to Clinipath in West Perth, the one place where they collect and process one's wee for shipping to the one lab in Queensland who do the actual testing.

On Wednesday I thought I'd managed to get a referral from my GP to do a test for Pyroluria, but it turns out that paperwork was useless.

Went to my GP today armed with internet info on Pyroluria and the important factoid that a family member had tested positive for it.

As I make the decision to start writing this post it’s just after 4 am and I’m awake. Again. Since there are possibly Reasons for this I thought I’d try and knock out some kind of medical update post. It’s rambly. tl;dr I’m messed up and take a lot of meds.
