I'm watching part 2 of a strange documentary series flying the flag for the wonders of food additives and preservatives.

Apparently, most of them are fine because they occur naturally (like arsenic, E-coli, and cobra venom), and the chemicals protect us from nasty bacteria if one should be so foolish as to eat a rotting pig. And Chinese restaurant syndrome (glutamate/msg/621 etc) sensitivity is all in the imagination *because* glutamates also occur in nature. Problem dismissed! It's a propaganda assault. I think I'll go gargle some DDT now.

There was nothing in the credits from part I last week to specify the funding sources. I know this because I deliberately recorded the end credits to check for declarations of industry support. Nothing, nor was there anything the web site of the film production company. I doubt it's worth asking them outright, but something is definitely awry.

One supposes that they concentrated on things like lecithin and sodium alginate and xanthan gum rather than coal tar dyes, aspartame and red dye No.1.
