Husband has a gig coming up to play in the orchestra pit for a live production of My Fair Lady. Yep, he does it all, and before you ask, he used to play cello in a classical orchestra in South Australia so I really mean everything. Modern and trad jazz, church choir, European folk music, heavy metal, bush band, 70's glam (complete with tight trousers and a running crash into the drum kit), pop, rock, blues, soul, musicals, Wiggles, Wild Thing on piano accordian (in public, for money), one shattered ulelele (for love of a woman - and it wasn't me, although I was there), and more renditions of Happy Birthday than you can poke a bow at. It adds up.

I've never been particularly keen on the battery chicken horses in thoroughbred racing, but I must say you can certainly spot the quality around Melbourne Cup time. So You Think is one heck of a good-looking horsie. Husband displays significantly less enthusiasm for the sport than I, and apart from a mystical belief* in The Power of Lotto (cue angelic chorus), he has no interest in gambling either, so I was a little surprised when he came home with a trifecta bet on the MC that displayed not a little attention to form with the dash of wishful thinking that rakes in the big money: Read more... )

Have achieved much in the last couple of days and am pleased, although am literally shaking from muscle fatigue. Oops. Still, it's been nice to have the option of overdoing things which I've not enjoyed for over a month.

With all the sex happening in The Book today I forgot about a bit of interesting violence IRL.

In no way is this violent violence )

The vet recently sent me a Senior Pet Questionnaire to help me assess the health of the cats (and to drum up business). I say cats, but there is a certain canine bias in the questions. It's much more fun to apply the questions to Husband or the human of your choice.

Today started well: up early, fed, bathed, dressed. Confidence was high that I'd be going to work. All I had to do was kill half an hour to let the traffic subside, particularly as the radio warned that the freeway was a carpark due to the weather.

Husband's going to be a busy musical boy this week, and I've got a few things to aim for. I can dream, can't I?

If one is trying to quietly tiptoe out of a darkened room so as to not disturb someone sleeping, this pretty much guarantees maximum noise and chaos.

I think it's fair to say that the Magic Rain-Detecting Bodyparts(tm) have been keeping their part of the bargain this week. Read more... )

See part 1

Swancon 2010 Sunday was all about surviving until our (relatively) late night Star Trek panel, so it was spent mostly quietly in my room trying to scrape up the will to live.

And doesn't that sound like fun. Read More. )

Today the rains came, and brought friends. I'm much too tired to do justice to storm reporting today, but I'm very glad I wasn't away from the house. Read more... )

Looks like the remake of King Kong had just come out (either that or I was still complaining about it). How many T-Rexes?

Pumpkin has a lot of love in his heart and a limited ability to spell. He likes to dress up for Swancon and is fond of the classics, but sometimes gets the characters mixed up. This was Husband's Valentine's day card to me for 2010: Read more... )

Husband draws great cat cartoons and I've been meaning to scan and upload them for a while. Here's one of my favourite ones. The jousting reference came about because we'd just seen A Knight's Tale. Pumpkin has a lot of cartoon adventures :-)

Husband once opined that if anyone could build a better rubber duck it would be the Swedes, so today we went to IKEA to find that better rubber duck.

We didn't find a rubber duck :-(

But we found Other Things :-)

Today--being the day after yesterday--I unsurprisingly had to slow down. So I didn't get up early and squeeze in a few hours at work before taking Husband to the physio.

But I did get a few things done )
