I Can't Believe It's Not WorldCon: Day 1

I Can't Believe It's Not WorldCon kicked off well with a perfectly sized attendance for the venue (i.e. there were enough chairs). FGoH (Furry Guest of Honour) Pumpkin proved that he really does exist IRL and circulated with flair. He allowed himself to be handled by strangers which is all we ask of any GoH.
Devious plans were laid for a guerilla program for the next Swancon, which may be called Androgycon. Stay tuned.
The video program ran in parallel with the panel/discussion program, in which the quality and relative merits of the English-for-the-hard-of-hearing subtitles of Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1959) and Conan The Barbarian (1981) were reviewed and debated. We also had fun spotting blood-splatter continuity errors in the climactic battle of CtB. The geological fidelity of the sets in JttCotE came in for a bit of unfavourable comment (we were particularly hard on the scene with white beach sand deep underground). I was able to produce some volcanic rock and sulphur as exhibits.
We talked about snakes for a while. People do that.
Special thanks must go to
ozdragonlady for her criminal skills, and to
huckle for making a solid effort to produce the first StephCon baby. I'm pretty sure these two things were unrelated.
Tomorrow the video stream will be VJ'ed by Husband, and will (hopefully) feature a lot of giant spiders. There's always hope for giant spiders.
We did actually consult the clock and see what was running at WorldCon this afternoon, although our parallel discussion on YA Paranormal Romance was limited to attendees fighting over the preferred method of destruction of my copy of Twilight.
Barry The Clue Bat oversaw proceedings and was satisfied by the standard of conversation.
Tomorrow for Day 2 I suspect Sector 7 may come under the influence of gamers. And giant spiders.
