Swancon 2011... pending
Apr. 26th, 2011 11:19 pmHave not managed to pull my thoughts or typing skills sufficiently together to report on Swancon. I have some critical observations to record that I am *desperately* keen to not be read as complaints, so I want to be a bit careful. There's plenty of fun stuff too.

Fingers crossed
Mar. 17th, 2011 10:19 pmAm happy to report that I was able to get myself into the office and work for 2 1/2 hours today, to add to the 3 I've chalked up already this week. Most of that time was entering edits I'd made on dead tree format at home, but I felt reasonably intelligent and even composed a few new sentences.

Bad Princess :-(
Mar. 15th, 2011 08:09 pmPrincess has torn out a chunk of fur on the back of her neck, and drawn blood. Not a lot of blood, but breaking the skin is a worrying sign. Time to find some cat-friendly antiseptic/soothing cream. I'm beginning to wonder if she's only remained unscathed of late because her claws were clipped a few weeks ago when she was under anaesthetic. My knees certainly know she has pointy toes again now.
Small improvements
Mar. 13th, 2011 10:39 pmI'd like to start with this post with a vote of thanks to the Universe that I am not currently on fire, under water (fresh or marine), under a pile of rubble, awaiting news of a missing loved one, cooking in a volcano, or suffering the effects of radiation poisoning. I've just paid the biggest power bill I've ever seen, but that means I have access to both electricity and the funds to support my power-usage habits. I'm pleased that our water usage continues to be way below local averages, and yet I have plenty of water with which to drink and wash.

So many cats, so many vet bills
Mar. 10th, 2011 10:59 pmTook Cally in to the vet for 3rd of 4 weekly injections of Cartrophen, and decided on a future course of one shot per month pending continued signs of improvement. Didn't take Pumpkin in, but had a chat about his hip and general Birmaniness.

Vet selection
Feb. 21st, 2011 11:34 pmIt's time to take Cally to the vet for a review of her pain treatment. I knew it was coming, but the actual phone call was inspired by something very simple: the bottomless vial of Metacam I've been giving to her has finally run dry. I've had it for quite some time and only yesterday felt moved to belatedly check the expiration date (10/2012 fyi).

New and improved

Cat health update x 2
Feb. 5th, 2011 11:59 pmStill not really up for outings today and had decided to defer Princess' 2 week followup vet visit for up to a week, but she suddenly went berk with scratching and headshaking, so we piled ourselves into various boxes and went to the vet.

Princess Tussaud
Jan. 22nd, 2011 04:51 pmPrincess is back from the vet and is well and truly recovered from her GA. A normal amount of wax has been removed from her left ear and a spectacular quantity of wax has been removed from her more troublesome right ear.

My cat rattles
Jan. 21st, 2011 04:07 pmSomething has been irritating Princess for quite some time, but it seems to have localised to her right ear. I keep an eye on the scratches and apply antiseptic occasionally, but this afternoon she presented with a new symptom.

Self-harm in teenagers
Dec. 23rd, 2010 10:20 pmPrincess is 13-14ish and so ripe for emo attacks of depression, masacara, black fashion, and self harm. Being a cat she struggles with the mascara and black wedding dresses, but is doing a bang-up job of self harm and associated emo.

It's about 48 hours since I put flea treatment on the cats, and today Princess has drawn her own blood at least twice that I can see. One under her left eye, and one just inside her right ear. Only small scratches, but they shouldn't be there at all. I've also found a couple of little crescent-shaped tufts of fur which I believe have come from scratching.

Paris Hilton's fleas
