Princess is back from the vet and is well and truly recovered from her GA. A normal amount of wax has been removed from her left ear and a spectacular quantity of wax has been removed from her more troublesome right ear.
No mites or signs of infection, but it certainly would have been unpleasant (hence the drawing of her own blood). She has some tissue thickening that narrows the ear canal, also possibly because of long-term low-level allergies. Both her eardrums are damaged slightly, but her hearing is not affected. It will be interesting to see if we can detect any changes in her personality with the removal of the irritant. I wonder if her voice will become a bit softer.
She should be relatively happy for the next 24 hours on a cortisone shot, but it may be difficult to tell when balanced against the indignity of medical attention. She's to go back for a checkup after two weeks to see how much wax has returned, then after that I try and keep on top of it as best I can. No wax-dissolving drops as she's too sensitive, but if I'm lucky I might get to inject saline into her ears every few weeks. Won't That Be Fun. Perhaps I could put food colouring in it and analyse the splatter patterns after the fray.
