Or possibly 1987. It seemed important at the time; just a little thing, the difference between Year 11 and Year 12. I'm the one on the right, with the most hair. I'm either 15 1/2 or 16 1/2. I suspect the latter, although I'm torn because I think that was the year that my date Malcolm (sourced independently from ballroom dancing I might add, so worth 10 mere boy classmates) went home with my friend (hmmm) Sandrine (not pictured). That does it, it was 1996 (oops) 1986.

Here it is )

I was scheduled this morning for a coffee/catchup with an old (aren't we all) UniSFAn friend whom I'd not seen much of in the last decade. I confess, however, that I was partially relieved when he called to cancel (a minor matter of needing to organise a knee reconstruction at short notice). I was feeling a bit worn out from washing my hair.

Commentary from high school reports now. Analysis to follow, but I find the mostly bland and sunny picture thus portrayed alarmingly different from my recall of my internal life at the time. I was definitely happiest in the classroom, but my competitive nature insists I was much more messed up than the average teenager in every other way. As always, errors provide the most interesting data points. I don't remember screwing up *that* badly in Maths (except at one particular point in Year 11; anecdote no doubt to follow).

If you've ever wanted to know what the 1970s Catholic education system thought of my primary years--and haven't we all--read on. I've transcribed the comments from all my primary school reports, and I think it makes for interesting reading in child development. Quite different style to what I've seen of modern reporting methods. I'm really interested in any teachers' modern interpretation of some of the remarks. I can't imagine it's still disappointing for a child to be "happy go lucky" in 2009.

If you don't fancy trawling through the lot I plan a highlights and analysis followup post. I've got high school to go yet, but that's when the depressing "Such a shame that S's health problems prevented her from..." comments started to appear :-(

Feel free to query for additional specifics in comments, or nominate particular comments for editorial review. This brought up some memories; drew an interesting blank on others, and included a few surprises.

This morning I recalled a couple of memorable moments from last night's generally bland reunion.

On geekhood and honesty )

I didn't notice until I'd written this down that my two favourite moments from last night both featured someone else saying "Stephanie! Don't say that!" LOL

EDIT: Just remembered an interesting throwaway line that's perked me up a bit: "I bet you don't have children. You look young." :-)

Wish me luck flist, I'm about to head off to my school reunion. I will no doubt have a word or two to say about it later.

Angsty high school memories and conflicting desires )
What should I do? Should I go? A lot of people I know are about the same age and would have faced the same prospect - what did you do or are contemplating doing?
