John Scalzi has done another post of interesting and possibly unique things that he has done. The post and especially the comments make for fun reading, and I swear I recognise a few people from their lists.

Here's my list of probably not unique, but special memories. They appear in comment #120 on the Scalzi post.

I "helped" sell some space adventure books on Friday night, including John Scalzi's Old Man's War (go read it, shoo) and this is what happened on FB:

I really really really wanted to like the premiere of Stargate: Universe (SGU), and in theory it was an attractive proposition with spaceships and guns, and the involvement of John Scalzi, although sadly not as a writer.

And did I really really really like it? )

There's a Stargate-shaped hole* in my fannish viewing. I watched the movie in 1994 (OMG 15 years ago?) and remember being disappointed. I failed to bond with any of the characters except the yak. A decade and a half later even the yak is getting fuzzy**.

Fan of John Scalzi's Old Man's War universe books and the blog Whatever, seek same for confirmation of a creeping suspicion. (And yes, asking this question over at Whatever would be more sensible, and I may try it some day).

I'm about half way through The Last Colony having finally got my hot little hands on a local paperback. Has it struck other readers that John Perry is John Scalzi, Jane is Scalzi's wife Krissy, and that Zoe is quite clearly Athena? I'm reading this wonderful SF work of space aliens, guns and politics, and it feels like I'm reading the family blog. Just, on a particularly interesting day.

Anyone else getting that? I'm too fuzzy to proof this properly now so I may not be making much sense.

John Scalzi recently urged his prodigious readership at Whatever to submit new hate mail for inclusion in an upcoming book. As you do. I wasn't planning to enter, but the damn man kept publishing deadline reminders until I snapped, or my sleeping pills started to kick in. Possibly both. This has perhaps put me at a disadvantage at entry #185, but, you know, Whatever(tm). I reproduce my hastily scribed words below.

I don't know what the next couple of Swancon committees have in mind, but John Scalzi has indicated an interest in GoHing here.

See http://scalzi.com/whatever/?p=285#comments, comments 14, 15 and especially 19

Heck, for him I'd fly places, within reason :-)
