Me age 5-12
May. 22nd, 2009 03:43 pmIf you've ever wanted to know what the 1970s Catholic education system thought of my primary years--and haven't we all--read on. I've transcribed the comments from all my primary school reports, and I think it makes for interesting reading in child development. Quite different style to what I've seen of modern reporting methods. I'm really interested in any teachers' modern interpretation of some of the remarks. I can't imagine it's still disappointing for a child to be "happy go lucky" in 2009.
If you don't fancy trawling through the lot I plan a highlights and analysis followup post. I've got high school to go yet, but that's when the depressing "Such a shame that S's health problems prevented her from..." comments started to appear :-(
Feel free to query for additional specifics in comments, or nominate particular comments for editorial review. This brought up some memories; drew an interesting blank on others, and included a few surprises.

Me at 12-17
May. 22nd, 2009 09:58 pmCommentary from high school reports now. Analysis to follow, but I find the mostly bland and sunny picture thus portrayed alarmingly different from my recall of my internal life at the time. I was definitely happiest in the classroom, but my competitive nature insists I was much more messed up than the average teenager in every other way. As always, errors provide the most interesting data points. I don't remember screwing up *that* badly in Maths (except at one particular point in Year 11; anecdote no doubt to follow).
