Leeks can be nasty. Most of the time they're pretty mild, but every so often I get a more boisterous one. Not sure if it's seasonal or anything.
I've been engaging onions in open warfare this afternoon (alliocide?) making a triple batch of bolognaise sauce for freezing, and had to stagger blinded from the kitchen more than once, so you have my sympathy.
I am deeply reassured. I'd rather believe in special leeks than that level of helplessness. Husband keeps checking eBay for plastic bubbles.
I'm hoping my more-powerful-than-the-gods rangehood will help with this little problem. The hole in the ceiling isn't quite sufficient in the fume extraction department.
I have fallen in love with my mandolin for fast onion preparation, fine chopped or finely sliced. I am *sooooo* in love. I can not believe how many onions there are in some of the foods I have been cooking.
