OK, I was horrified
Aug. 6th, 2009 11:26 pmWelcome back LJ. And FB, and Twitter. OK, I can get by without FB and certainly Twitter, but I admit to some anxiety about the loss of LJ.

Anti-alter ego
May. 3rd, 2009 09:30 pmInspired by the fear of losing chunks of my precious flist, I too have acquired for myself a Dreamwidth account, same username as here.
I don't have a clear plan per se but probably won't post or mirror on dw. I'll replicate my flist as required then make a reading filter for people who post different content to lj and dw so I don't get lost in the crosspost-fire.
OK, it looks like I have a plan :-)

50K in two weeks?
Mar. 29th, 2009 05:18 pmLooks like my fondness for refreshing my friends page continues unabated:

I wonder if I can hit 50K "hits" by the start of Swancon?
( How does one achieve massive interweb popularity? )

Everyone say hello
Feb. 21st, 2009 02:22 amA warm welcome to
brillianteyz who joined the good ship flist this morning (2:20AM local time - see what you miss if you sleep?). She has an awesome user icon and interesting bio - check it out.

B, feel free to comment anywhere to ask for a catchup on any terminology in this blog or ongoing stories. "Sector 7" refers to my house, for example, and "The Catmobile" is my car. Obviously :-)

Putting the F in FAQ
Dec. 17th, 2008 05:38 pmLess than 48 hours after posting my tiger FAQ I was asked #2 again, although I must admit "Was there a magician involved?" is a new one.
Going down
Nov. 18th, 2008 08:47 pmAs I understand time travel, LJ is due to go down in about 5 hours time. Could be out for 4 hours, could be more. Could be fatal.
*hyperventilates*
So, this could be my last post ever, and I have neglected to find an acceptable method of offline backup for my journal, not that I've looked recently. So, this could be it. Oblivion. How did I spend my last couple of days of blogdom?

I write this from the local H&R Block office, having bowed to the pressure of the close of October and finally made an appointment to do my tax. I'm normally much more organised than I am this year, so we'll see how it goes. I am, however, stupidly early, hence the pointless blathering while I await the torture.

So, stephbg, your LiveJournal reveals...
You are... 6% unique (blame, for example, your interest in wacky science stories) and 17% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy walking). When it comes to friends you are popular. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are keen to please. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is conventional.
Your overall weirdness is: 26
(The average level of weirdness is: 27.
You are weirder than 59% of other LJers.)
Find out what your weirdness level is!
I have decided to come out
Jul. 29th, 2008 09:56 amNot that I've ever made any particular effort to disguise who I am, but I've decided to link this blog to my other official online identities in LinkedIn and The Evil Thing (and whatever other strays google kicks up). This might require a fraction more f-locking in the future :-)
My LJ profile now contains my Real Name, and I'll be updating and cross linking sometime probably-not-soon. I do not classify this as a remotely big deal.

What's in a name?
Jul. 9th, 2008 01:40 pmI sometimes wonder if I should change the name of my blog to something a little more dignified, witty or clever. And then I wonder if I'm being unacceptibly pretentious. At that point I realise that no-one but myself is paying attention. But then I look at the counter and think, well, *someone's* paying attention. Then I remind myself to come back to reality.
But in the end I have to ask: Does anyone give a damn what the thing is called? And do you care about yours?
ETA: I refer not to my username, but the blog name "Propping up a dodgy memory: it's for me to keep track of myself"
