When I signed up for my "3" wireless broadband account it was for $49 per month for 1GB. Since then they doubled the download rate to 2GB (which we don't need). Now they're offering 1GB limit for something like $14 per month.

We signed a 2 year contract for $49 per month because that was the best one on offer at the time, but I hate to feel trapped for another 18 months while the price for new contracts has dropped so dramatically. Does anyone know if I have any options?

EDIT: The $14.50/1 GB offer is only for people with a phone account, but the exact equivalent is $29 per month, nearly half of what I'm paying. I've written to them nicely requesting a contract change (don't hold your breath) and I guess the Telecommunications Ombudsman is next.

I hate this sort of thing :-(

This is exactly the reason why I tend to prefer short lock-in periods even if it means paying more up front. For example, I was looking at moving to Amcom's ADSL2 service, where I could sign up for a one year contract for a $150 joining fee, or for three years at no fee. No contest. Of course, I then discovered that Amcom suck dead goats, so I did neither.

Two years *was* the "short contract" option.
