Happy things

A couple of hours ago an lj post would have been a very bad idea. Today was another in a long list of fatigue writeoffs, worsening family news, more missed social engagements (so sorry
doctor_k_, I *really* wanted to see the show), and sundry other badnesses.
However, I refuse to dwell on gloom, so today I list happy things.
Things that make me happy (in no particular order):
* Husband. His presence, hugs, care, concern and daily delivery of straight lines to which I must respond. The fact that last night we both managed an impressive and instinctive turn of speed when we heard the words "Knut's first birthday" on the TV in the next room.
* Writing atrocious puns. Recent favourite: "loftwuffe" for wartime pigeon service. You groan, I smile.
* The cats. Whether they are purry, grumpy, jealous, needy, mysterious, playful or sleeping, they give great comfort.
* My family. Yes, they drive me crazy, but they're a pretty good bunch of people all up.
* My friends and extended lj/swancon community. So many extremely interesting, intelligent, amusing and kind people.
* LiveJournal. For keeping me in touch with people rather more effectively than my usual once-per-year binge at Swancon, and for rekindling my long-lost love of recreational writing.
Please share with the happy.

Date: 2007-12-07 01:49 pm (UTC)working stove/oven! After the various debacles, both oven and stove work. Last night, made large batch of bikkies, chocolate chip. Much nicer to work with the new kitchen! Somehow, more space than the old one, which makes no sense whatsoever (except that the counter no longer has walls for stuff to wash up against, so it isn't getting so crowded)
mangoes. mulberries. raspberries. blueberries. cumquats. tangeloes. peppermint (fresh). apricots. blood plums. lillipillies. pomegranates. passionfruit. cape gooseberries. feijoa. strawberries. figs. persimmons. avocadoes. kiwi fruit. carambola. custard apple. And the fact that I have plants that may potentially produce most of these *in my very own garden*.
flowers on my pomegranate plant! very soon after the last ones, which were some time just after the leaves came out this spring. Maybe not all of them will fall off without producing fruit, although not very likely.
sushi. which youngest and I had a very small quantity of for lunch, 'cos we went to Jaws, and it's been a while, and my, isn't it expensive.
there is much else, but that would be much of the list of what has made me happy today.

Date: 2007-12-07 02:25 pm (UTC)The cat. His warm, purring form and the cheerful noise of his bell as he trots up to greet me when I get home.
Baking. The smell, creation and consumption and the joy it always brings husband makes me very happy too.
Expensive shower gels. Husband: "Why do women like to cover themselves in smelly goop?" Me: "Because it's nice." Husband: "But you have at least five bottles of goop in the bathroom and the level in them hasn't changed much since I've known you." Me: "I know but it makes me happy knowing they are there and that I can use them if I want to." Go figure.
Shoes: When all else fails they always fit and always make me feel great.
