A cunning plan

I normally purchase a lotto ticket for every Saturday's draw, with the intent to win. Thus far, success has been limited: n is a small number approaching zero.
As per usual practice I had a ticket for last Saturday's draw, but because the household routine was disrupted by the presence of A Guest, I did not check it immediately. The ticket and draw numbers have thus been sitting on the bench for a couple of days, and I have developed a theory.
The longer I leave the ticket, the greater the chance becomes that it is a winning ticket, and the larger the prize becomes. I call this the Law of Irony.
Husband thinks I have finally lost my mind, and given what he's heard from me already over the last 17-odd years, that's saying a lot.
