Princess and the Pee

First the good news: for the last week I can definitely confirm that Princess' pee has not had any visible blood in it. And in other good news, today we caught the aforementioned substance on one of the puppy housetraining absorbent pads we put out near one of the litter tray stations.

The bad news is that Princess now regularly fails to make it to the tray to pee.

In related good news, Handee paper towels are *really* good at absorbing pee after the event.

Will I stop talking about cat pee any time soon? No.

After about the third accident within the same small distance along the approach to the back trays (helpfully highlighted in bicarb powder) I got Husband to lay down newspaper and a couple of puppy pads. This morning I discovered a wet patch in one of the spots he missed. Argh.

Not long ago Princess let out one of her most distressed howling noises so I went to investigate – she was on a couch in the spare room having a wash, so I checked the danger area and there it was, a wet patch on a puppy pad. Yay! Or Damn! I replaced the pad and beefed up the defences a bit more.

She's now gone 5 or 6 times in the same relatively small area, and I'm starting to wonder if her bladder is failing her that regularly (i.e. always within a couple of seconds of safety), or is she starting to consider that patch of ground part of the legitimate litter area? She's never been a digger or a burier, so maybe the absence of litter wouldn't serve as a clue. She's always been nervous of her own productions – literally running away as soon as her business is done, with no scratching or sniffing.

She's chock full of antibiotics still, and getting regular steroids – I wonder what more, if anything, can be done for her?

I had an elderly puss who did the same thing, and she wasnt sick - no antibiotics or anything. Seems to be something they do. I finished up using pads of newspaper. it destroyed the carpet in that corner the end :(

If you can find a general area where she goes, puppy pads are great, and bicarb is wonderful. There is a spray you can get from pet stores to remove any smell - or Febreeze works just as well. Cleanig up is important - wee turns into nitric acid crystals when it dries - does wonders (not) for the furniture and floors.

Thanks. We recently invested in the bulk pack of 100 puppy pads. We've been putting them around the immediate perimeter of the trays for a while as Cally has been "missing the tray" for some time now, although most of her is usually inside at the time.

Ah, old cats.
