Walkies

Quick medical update to say that unless provoked by excessive exercise (see below) the shingles is all cleared up. Is that what illnesses are supposed to do? Go away? 'Cause I like it.

Exercise being walkies of slightly extended duration, on several days within reasonable proximity of each other. Better yet, these walks were conducted while I was not in my pajamas. As per standard exercise-is-good-for-cfs-patients advice I'm pushing a little harder each time. I can do this because I'm not experiencing any fibro symptoms at the moment *fingers crossed*.

Brain reboot also underway with sudoku to get my eye back in. Fortunately I'm not faced with the former terror of never again regaining my brain cells after an extended fog, although I'd quite like my literacy back, yes?

Speaking of literacy, I have finished Mists of Avalon (Marion Zimmer Bradley). In its 1009 pages it had many good points, and a few big glaring weaks ones about which I may yet speak. It's certainly an impressive piece of work, but not one I'll be rushing to read again from cover to cover. That said, it's possible I might re-read the King Stag ritual some time. Sex and drugs and woad, woohoo.

On Tuesday night I went to the ACS meeting, which was about gender-based salary inequality. The presentation was sadly statistic-heavy and not wildly engaging; the presenter kept saying "Don't shoot the messenger!". She also had a South African-ish accent which meant that whenever she said "women" it sounded like "woman", for which my brain then tried to compensate by adding an s to at least get the grammar right, but hearing "womans" several hundred times in an hour was also distracting.

Still, I was pleased to have faced the heavy rain and unexpectedly limited visibility to get myself along to the meeting. It took 25 minutes rather than the usual 15, as traffic was all over the place. I was a bit sore by the time I got home, but not unreasonably so. The chairs at the Celtic Club where we meet are seriously uncomfortable. I recall the function centre chairs at the Hyatt with fondness.

As per recent habit I did not stay for drinkies and networking afterwards, thinking that would be pushing the body just a bit too far. I do however have some thoughts to explore about potential gender differences in illness, and perception of fitness to work at high functioning jobs.
