Cat torture of the day

And today's lucky partcipant was Princess.



I deemed today the day I would have to gird my loins and flush out Princess' ears for the first time. I'd have quite happily put it off for longer, but she's been shaking her head and scratching at her ears so It Was Time. She settled down quite considerably after the vet did the cleaning, but I wasn't quite so confident I could achieve the same effect.

The original plan was to have Husband wrap Princess in a sheet, then hang on for dear life, but I couldn't help but think that this is a trick we'd only be able to pull off once. Instead we put a chair in the middle of the tiles and Husband hugged Princess to his body. I'd prepared by filling two syringes with sterile saline and had these to hand along with some cotton buds. I really must acquire a kidney dish. It was kind of fun filling the syringes because I got to use a rubber topped bottle, and when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror drawing out the dose I looked at least as competant as a TV actor :-)

The restraint system seemed to work, and at least some of the stuff got inside the right orifices in the right creature. (Note for next time, cover Husband in a towel). What surprised me most was how quickly she came back to us to seek comfort after her traumatic experience. I've been further and pleasantly surprised that the treatment has actually seemed to help. I haven't seem her shake her head once, and she's in a particularly deep relaxed sleep.

Off now to give Cally her final dose of anti-inflammatories. She's responded very well to this treatment and although she started to look a bit seedy yesterday I've been very pleased with the net result. She's been much brighter and more active, and when she's been stationery she's been sitting and holding up her head far more often. Now when she smooches me she multitasks and keeps an eye on her surroundings.
