"Read the Liaden Universe books," they said. "You'll love them."

Years passed; continents drifted. Liaden Liaden Liaden. Always in the back of my mind, but a victim of its own branding, because I could never remember who wrote the damn things so I couldn't look them up (whenever I thought to) at second-hand shops. So I have [livejournal.com profile] leecetheartist to thank once again for addressing my failing education and/or inherent laziness.

In hindsight I now realise I have started in perhaps a strange place with my first Lee&Miller Liaden book, being an offshoot story by the name of Fledgling. It wasn't quite the spaceships-and-guns space opera I'd sort-of expected, although to be fair there were both spaceships and guns in the text. And Kung Fu!* And interesting but not shove-it-down-your-throat feminism in action.

I read it in a day. Am blind, but happy. And incoherent. Reminded me a bit of Joan Slonczewski.

Back catalogue, here I come!

Glad you liked. Actually, you have rdmasters to thank for actually bringing the books.

Steve Miller is kinzel on LJ and Sharon Lee is rolanni if you care to follow them.

We have the sequel to Fledgling if you want to read it.

If you can stand ebooks, they are all on the Baen Webscriptions site for $(really quite reasonable), sans DRM and in multiple formats, including HTML.

I'm glad you enjoyed Fledgling. Now, your next project is to read the books that lead up to the end of the sequel - Saltation. They really start with that big omnibus that we lent you at the same time.

Then we can lend you Saltation. By which time the next book should be out. :)

Thank you too. I'm afraid I got lazy with my lj tags and lumped you in with leece. I apologise for ignoring your individuality.

Actually I read Fledgling first because it was nominally lighter than the omnibus. I was also afraid that I might try to read the omnibus in a single day and thus explode.

Am not yetr a fan of ebooks; I lack suitable wetware.

Good to hear you've found them. And yes, they are available at very reasonable prices on ebooks (where you can increase font size as necessary)

Not the worst place to start. I'm sure R & L have given you some other good ones.
