I went to my GP today and took along my shiny new copy of Worlds Next Door to keep me company. The good doctor is always interested in what I bring along to read, but I was surprised that he was surprised that it was science fiction for children.

He didn't realise that there was even such a thing as SF for children.

"Wouldn't it be too scary?" he asked. I assured him that it was indeed *very* scary. (Remind me to never take up graffiti.)

I learned a thing today, but it was certainly not the thing I was expecting to learn. I wonder what is his definition of SF, that he doesn't think he's ever seen any aimed at children? *boggle*

And here I thought that most people thought SF fans were 14 year old boys.

As David Hartwell (I think) first said, the Golden Age of Science Fiction is 12.
