My leading story is that I went to work this morning and managed a couple of hours of reading, planning, and outlining for the next section of work. This follows from yesterday's packaging and delivering of drafts for technical review, so I've had a sense of achievement to boot.

Only 2-3.5 hours on each day, and not consistently first thing in the morning, but the most important measure here is that it was 5 days in a row. Woo! It's been my goal to do as many days in a week as possible, on a regular basis, before starting to expand the length of the sessions. I have passed the first milestone and am very happy with that. The main thing holding me back this week was nerve pain in my left arm, but my brain was in pretty good nick.

You can see why I'd be unwilling to risk all this by having the B12 shot which could set progress back by weeks.

In the evenings I've been nibbling away at my Communication Risks talk so I've actually got quite a lot of serious laptop time under my belt. I also have new and exciting MS PowerPoint bugs to adapt to. It's actually been quite a while since I've had to learn to work around a new set of obstacles. It's educational, with the bonus of expanding my vocabulary of bad words.

After work I went to see the folks, as it's been a bit long between visits of late. We talked about the usual things, but the election reared its ugly head. We're not a particularly political family (I think we all have an instinct for domestic peace and harmony that is incompatible with vigorous political debate), but M&D spoke for a time about the campaign and the leaders. It was educational ("What about the separation of Church and State?", "That never really happens"), with the bonus of expanding my vocabulary of bad words.

I pushed on to go to the stables for a brief parasitic visit. I was under no illusions that I could do any useful work there (missing the use of my left arm by this point and staggering a bit), but I went in and briefly scritched a couple of horses. I smelled them, felt their warmth and weight, and watched their body language. It will do me for a little while. No one tried to stop me, but I still feel a little uncomfortable coming in under those circumstances, particularly on days where I don't know the coach.

Got home to the news that my friend Rhonda is the 9th most influential blogger IN THE WHOLE WORLD in the area of Technical Communication. This is awesome news on multiple fronts, thoroughly validating my recruitment and friend-selection skills of a decade ago.

I did push a little bit too hard today, as evidenced by a sudden collapse this evening, but I don't think I did too badly. On Monday (after the minor issue of a Shrink visit in the morning) I get Husband to myself for a whole day before he flies away to Adelaide for the rest of the week.
