To recap: I have a cold, and it's working its merry way through my system in an orderly fashion. You may find the following TMI but I'm finding it rather interesting. Things are changing so fast, and that's not what happens with chronic illness so it's a bit of a novelty.

First thing in the morning and after clearing out the night's accretions, the throat was still sore but became less so over the course of the day. Quite a lot of clear runny nose and associated spluttercough. Tissues. I hate tissues. I'm still occasionally getting dizzy and hearing gurgling sounds in my ears when I blow my nose.

Throat glands definitely swollen.

This evening came the green phlegm from slightly deeper in the throat. Now the throat is sore again, but when I speak rather than when I swallow. The voice is getting more than a little unpredictable. A few sneezes in the mix now, as I prepare to become extra contagious. Temperature all over the place, once completely soaking me and my jammies with sweat in a matter of minutes.

So all very normal I'd say, with a chance of losing my voice entirely for a day or two.

As far as I can recall, green phlegm is usually a sign of bacterial activity, as well as a signal of pinpoint local bleeding (possibly from coughing with inflamed membranes). The breakdown of haemoglobin from red to green is a little counterintuitive, I must admit.

Im less excited by the green phlegm=bacteria equation than I used to be. I was producing a chunk of nasty green stuff every day at about the same time for over a year and my GP showed no interest whatsoever. It stopped happening when I cut down salicylates.

I found the Fess nasal spray a great help. I think it's just saline, so it might not have any triggers in it for you.

I hate tissues too, so I take Sudafed (the proper version, now expensive because our nanny-government is full of shitheads). For sore throats, gargling with salty water may help. Sipping high-proof alcoholic drinks works for me.
