It's best not to get too attached

Shopping for toys at Sector 7 isn't all about satisfying the pathetic whims of lost childhood by people old enough to know better. Oh no, sometimes we buy toys for the children cats. The best cat toys are--rather unfortunately for the toys themselves--doomed. To illustrate:
Before:

According to forensics, after:

You may note that these mice are made from real fur and are undyed. Artificial substitutes in bright colours are indeed available, but since the cats eat these toys, I'd rather they be constructed of materials for which the feline digestive system is equipped to manage. There are fluffier (and naturally much easier to acquire) versions of the same thing but they're just not as popular as this model, which feels nice and meaty.
Actually this post-play mouse is quite unusual: the tail is generally the first part to go.

Thaw one out, drop it on the floor and kick it across the tiles - hey presto, cheap instant cat toy. Leave it frozen for a longer-lasting toy/snack, also good to cool down a hot cat on a summer day.
Or, you can do what we did and get a puppy. She's a self-healing cat toy that keeps on being bouncy and playful, no matter how much they chew and scratch her...
