Tick!

This afternoon I tackled a much-deferred job and tested the reticulation. I am *very* pleased about this.

Given my Darwinian approach to gardening, water-saving urges and general lack of spoons, the retic has lain off and unattended for probably a year. Since it's a dripper system in a now well-established native scratchy garden, checking all the drippers is a major job. Fortunately blockages are almost always treatable by removing the dripper head while the water is on and letting the pressure flush it out. Putting the dripper heads back on is a bit more of a challenge in the odd spot where the pressure is high. But today was a good day to get wet and not have to worry about sun exposure.

I am a bit whacked, however, from all the bending, crouching, and reaching, and my lovely golden nails were unimpressed by the blind scrabbling in damp gritty overgrown soil required to find buried fixtures. With one or two I found a damp patch but couldn't find the actual hardware. I figured if there was a damp patch to find it must be doing its job and let it be. With a few I let Heisenberg take charge.

Reprogramming the timer for our watering days was a little bit of guesswork. I shall have to find the manual to confirm whether Day 1 of the 14 day cycle is Sunday or Monday. I think it's Sunday, so it's probably Monday. In any case it's set to water on two days a week. And I think I forgot to use a 24 hour clock when setting the time. Must fix that. Later.

Don't program tired, people.

It was good exercise though, and I'm no longer in teeth-gritting pain from nerve flares along the left arm and leg that protested sitting, walking, lying down *and* stretching. Fussy. I had to leave work after only 1 3/4 hours this morning, but a lot of my endurance was eaten up by an ill-advised early start through awesomely bad gridlock traffic on the freeway. Then there's the weather and bonus hormones. I went to the folks' place which is closer than home and propped myself up on the spare bed with a freezer block on my shoulder. It helped. I'm slowly figuring out which bits of me need blankets and which bits need ice.

I think I need more ice now. I still prefer pain to fatigue. I don't ever want to go back there again :-(

And I'd like some thunder please. Proper thunder. Not shh-is-it-a-plane-or-is-it-a-truck-ooh-I-think-it-might-be-thunder thunder. I mean THUNDER!
