Rubber glove time

When we came here 6 years ago, Sector 7 came complete with a dishwasher of unknown vintage. At the time it never would have occurred to me to buy one, but I wasn't about to refuse the opportunity. I grew fond of the dishwasher. Very fond indeed. However, it was a bit of a black box (despite being a white good) and it occurred to me once or twice that if something went wrong I'd be pretty much at a loss for what to do.
So it's finally failed: it fills with water, then gets stuck making a buzzing noise and won't start the wash cycle. Fortunately when I turn it off it drains, so I haven't had to deal with nightmarish plumbing issues.
Turns out after a bit of googling and a chat with a Nice Appliance Repair Guy on the phone that it's almost certainly the motor and seriously not worth repairing. I greeted this news with mixed feelings.
Oh good, I thought, I won't have to go through the trouble of repairs and tracking down parts, or feel inadequate because I can't fix it myself.
Oooh, I thought, I get to have a new dishwasher.
Hang on, I thought, I will have to *pay* for a new dishwasher.
Just a moment, I thought, I don't *have* to have a dishwasher. But I *really* want one.
And here we are. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a new dishwasher, but right now I have no idea what they cost. I wonder if modern dishwashers will even fit in the existing space?

Date: 2009-10-23 03:40 pm (UTC)I need the dishwasher to save my hands from the heat of washing up (even with cotton gloves inside rubber gloves). It is why I often will leave that 'one' dish or counter wipe down to do in batches as it means that I need to put on all of the gloves each time.
