Thanks to a power outage and leaking roof at Husband's bass student's house, a rest day for le Tour, and the unforgivable absence of Top Gear from SBS, we found ourselves watching yet more Trek this evening.
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home aka The One With The Whales
Space Bikini Score: 0
Frightening Hair Memories Score: 100
Apart from that, just as much fun as I remembered and now I could appreciate it as the closing act to trilogy that was ST: II-IV. I was vaguely aware of the arc, but it's nice to put it all together in the right order, without ads.
Not much to add really. So it was full of bad science, pfft. I forgive it. Wacky moments? No problem. Lots of puzzles and no evil opposition: nice.
It also clocked up a few more moments of subtle canon for the recent film. Purrrr purrrr purrrrr.
And I didn't want to mention it before, but my suspicion that Saavik and Regenerated Young Spock had done The Nasty during the last film was confirmed during one of the writer interviews: Saavik was left behind on Vulcan with Mom because she was pregnant! Which is a little bit ewww (I think
alias_sqbr calls it skeevy) for sundry vaguely feminist reasons. I'm sure it's been discussed to death elsewhere.
I may not forgive Husband for his comment after I explained why I occasionally pick up peripheral I/O devices and talk to them ("Computer?"): "Why don't you do it in a Scottish accent?"
To which I responded icily: "I just did."
ED: And in an effort to recover our relationship after reading this, he made a nice recovery with "I'm sorry, it sounds Russian." Oh all right then :-)
