Sogginess of the accomplished variety

stephbgGot my sorry arse to the pool this afternoon for a cautious 600m swim, marred only by a knuckle-bruising encounter with the razor-sharp plastic lane marker thingies whilst attempting to avoid an oncoming train. OK, maybe it was some immensely pot-bellied splashy bloke who probably can't keep to his lane on the freeway either.
After the swim I called Husband to consult on his movements tonight. A former colleague has been trying to get The Band (one of the many, frankly) back together, and he has a meetin'. I called again, this time to ask him to start the oven warming. However, for reasons that escape me and for which I can only blame oxygen deprivation, on the second call I greeted him with the words "Light the torch. Birman flies at night." I got the mystified silence I deserved, but he recognised my voice and waited patiently for sense to emerge. Emerge it apparently did, for the oven was warm by the time I got home.
I blame Jumping Jack Flash (the film with Whoopi Goldberg) which featured the spy-line "Dogs barking. Can't fly without umbrella". This film is also responsible for another favourite quote of mine. Whoopi is attempting to transcribe the lyrics of the Rolling Stones' song Jumping Jack Flash. After many hours, tape rewinds and scrunched up pieces of paper she pleads with the stereo "Mick! Speak English!"

Alternatively I could blame the excessive amounts (i.e. more than 50 words) of Traci Harding I've been reading lately. By golly those books are stupid. I'll admit they're relaxing in a vegetative coma kind of way, but sometimes, a goat is got and it's mine.
Synopsis: Harding, T. An Echo in Time: Atlantis. Book 2 of The Ancient Future trilogy:
"Crystals are pretty. Fix your soul with lots of baths. Karma is neat. Hey, I'm a higher being! Cool!"
The intent may be pure but by golly the execution is juvenile.
