Well, no thanks to the instructions, we now have digital TV. Really, who writes these things? We got stuck on something so obvious it clearly wasn't worth mentioning... (surely the user *must* have done this thing by now) but it had all sorts of odd side effects.
A: Select menu item X.
B: It's disabled.
A: Nonsense. Select menu item X.
B: I can't.
A: OK, make sure that your digital antenna is correctly set up.
B: Digital antenna? Do we need a new antenna? I thought we just needed a digitaltuna tuner and we've got an internal one.
A: Good, you're OK then. Select menu item X.
B: We. Are. Not. OK.
et cetera.
At best we found bits of text that began "Once your set is in digital mode...". Unfortunately we found those bits of text whist looking for the instruction for how to get *into* digial mode. Eventually we did what all sensible people do and abandoned the manual to press semi-random buttons on the remote.
In happy news I did another search online for prices, and found nothing cheaper than $100 over what I paid. Most were about $300-$400 over, with one RRP approximately twice what I paid, so I don't have to face that particularly purchase regret.
Unfortunately it hurts my eyes :-(
Hopefully we can find suitable brightness etc settings, and we'll gain another metre or so of distance once the final furniture re-arrangement is made. Fortunately the room has a lot of scope for viewing distance. I may knock out a wall.
The marriage has survived thus far, but I'm a baaaaaad person to have around in this situation.
