20 minutes into tonight's episode of House, the desperate chronically ill guy with the gun is... me! Right down to the post chicken pox/neuralgia and hypersensitive hearing. He needs to go beige.

ETA: 45 minutes in: It's not a tooma. I bet it's preservatives and tomatoes. And mint, oranges, curry, bacon etc etc etc. And let's not forget soup.

Perhaps now would be a time to ask my fellow chronic sickly friends if you've ever had House diagnosis fantasies? A team of dedicated brains and a whiteboard, just for you?

I think medical shows are there to reassure you that really the health system isn't that crap and someone will actually spend time to work out what's wrong with you, CPR will work out ok, nobody much winds up a vegetable, and whatever's wrong can be (usually) fixed.

Now, to sit down and watch tonight's episode :)

I used the word "fantasy" advisedly.

I would keep Greg House away from me with a 12 foot pole if necessary.

He'd probably just send me for an MRI, misdiagnose me for 35 minutes and then miraculously find the diagnosis in the final five.

You know anal bleeding is really common on House, right?

I was highly amused earlier this season when a patient was diagnosed with MS (for a bit) and they DIDN'T send her off for an MRI to confirm.

In case of cardiac arrest

Oh, there is no way I'd let that team near me. If I arrest, get JD and Elliot from Scrubs, or hell, even Guy from Green Wing! but keep House's team of clowns away from me!

It's my fantasy, so it probably wouldn't involve the actual screenwriter and actors. Just a room full of thinky people who care. And I've always wanted an MRI. Come close a few times.

Well, I once fell into a coma for no apparent reason, and that seems to happen a lot on the show :) Though the doctors reaction was to do a lot of tests, scratch their heads, and say "Um. So. The only unusual result is that you were a bit low on salt. Which really doesn't explain it. Hopefully it won't happen again?", on the plus side they didn't half kill me in the process.

Apparently not normally at that level in someone my age, or something. I'd even eaten something salty shortly before falling into it.

I forgot to add my point: I got the House treatment to some extent. LOTS of random tests (including an MRI AND a catscan. Radioactive iodine feels funny) And despite the fact that, coma aside, I have a bunch of other health problems, they found nothing wrong with me :/ I do have the fantasy of a doctor going "Here! Take this pill once and you will be 100% healthy forever!" (and being right :D)
