I was very impressed with Dexter when it began. It was so very interesting to see the flip side of all the physical and psychological forensic shows I've watched. I'm also a sucker for a character who is very good at what they do.
Perhaps all the foul language was necessary to make it realistic, but I found it a distraction. Unless of course, it was to highlight the fact that Dexter himself never swears (?), or at least not spontaneously.
Nothing spontaneously.
I continued to be impressed throughout the season, completely failed to see The Big Twist coming, and honestly couldn't predict where things were going there for a while. There were a few truck-sized holes in the plot, but there's always s2 for people to notice loose ends.
I made only one prediction that I recall, that the Ice Truck Killer and Dexter would collaborate to kill Paul, the bastard husband. It seemed tidy at the time and was clearly very wrong.
Poor Deb. Worst marriage proposal anti-climax ever. I guess her intimacy issues will be back big time.
And as for Dexter himself, I definitely felt sorry for him as he cut his brother's throat. And that's not a phrase I thought I'd be using today. This week even. That's good writing. Nothing to do with me at all.
Really.
