Checking on the family history

It's been my belief all my life that I was named after the wife of the Hawthorn football club coach in early 1970.



The story goes that Mum heard the name on the radio and just liked it, saving me from Donna, Meredith or Brian. I'd been thinking it was time I got around to writing to the club to check the facts of the matter, but I figured a query like that would get lost just before the finals and so put it off.

Today I dropped in on the folks while they were hosting some obscure cousins from Geelong, and so naturally the story of my Hawthorn origins came up in conversation. However, Mother piped up and said that it wasn't the coach's wife Stephanie, but the wife of "freakish" full forward Peter Hudson. I have been corrupting history for nearly 38 years!

I haven't been able to confirm Peter Hudson's wife's name from google-friendly sources, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find a contact somewhere.

Family history can get a little muddled at times. All my life I was convinced my mother's name was Helen - she certainly didn't do anything to let me know otherwise - turns out it was actually Florence and Helen was her middle name.
