Knight Rider (2008)

Sadly not the cinema extraveganza I was hoping for, but a TV pilot remake. An automatic pilot, if you will.
Also sadly it took itself rather more seriously than my beloved 80's original. The producers seem to have aimed for a more HAL-like calm with KITT 3000, as opposed to the deeply sarcastic snarkiness that I remembered of KITT 2000. The odd amusing line delivered deadpan, but I could have used a few dozen more.
Still, dots were joined, and engineering porn levels were moderately acceptable for TV, if not approaching Iron Man levels.
I noticed one other very important difference: at the time I watched the original series I developed a phobia that I would be run over by a speeding car, because it just wasn't possible that it/the driver could see ahead. Curiously enough, much as I managed to do in ultra-slow motion last week. With the new KITT, however, there's so much satellite and over-the-horizon tech going down I feel much more secure as an innocent pedestrian. Ho hum.
The FBI Agent character is a lesbian. Just to show we're all modern I guess. But wait! She's the butch one who surfs and is a badass, but she's got long hair! I'm all confused!
Look, there's The Hoff in a cameo role as the new hero's daddy, bad cosmetic surgery and all. Those eyes. Those dead, dead eyes *shudder*.
I think I'll give this one a miss.
