Oh, by the way...

Found out today that BB has a compression fracture in one of his vertebrae from his recent fall (and softened bones from long term steroid use). Funnily enough, a broken back is the least of his problems and hardly makes a blip on the hospital radar.
He's on even bigger doses of steroids and a vast array of other treatments via almost every delivery method imaginable. At one point he had 4 different IVs, but I think tonight there were only two. He was happy to report that brain surgery is back on the cards, to install a shunt to release pressure and for a bit of directed chemo. This afternoon they dressed him up in a green surgical gown for something, then left him in the ward.
Information and ideas are still flying thick and fast. It's like an episode of House. The best bit of news was the confirmation of my hope/theory that he might regain some of the sensation he lost so very rapidly, although the cause was the new stuff in his spinal fluid rather than the new growths in his head.
The nurses come and go pretty much non-stop and they are all *lovely*. He's very chatty thanks to some of the drugs, but chuckly and teasy as well. Some of the nurses are starting to tease him back, which he loves. They're probably getting a few hints from his three merciless baby sisters, all of whom were there this evening giving him stick. And scalp massages :-)
Actually the stick was quite literal, as BB was waving his arms around too much and making one of the IV pumps beep, so we taped his arm to the bed.
So, a chance to catch our breath for a moment.
