BB update

BB is now numb down his entire right side. This morning he fell off his walker seat in the kitchen and was unable to rise beyond his knees. Fortunately he had a visitor at the time who summoned two nearby builders to pick him up. He now has a sore back which makes getting in and out of bed even more difficult. With this further decrease in mobility--and general exhaustion all around--we started to look at a stay in respite care.

This afternoon the doctors decided to go ahead with a biopsy of one or more of Trevor's new friends, as they are in relatively accessible places. Relative in terms of brain surgery. That will be Monday or Tuesday, after which he'll go into respite care until things settle at the next level. It's not impossible that they'll be able to relieve the pressure enough for him to get back enough mobility to move back into the flat. In the meantime, massive doses of steroids again.

We watch. We wait.



On a lighter note, my protective instincts were given a run this morning when we were waiting for the Silver Chain nurse to arrive. Hearing a noise at the door I confronted (the only word for it) a young man on the doorstep. "Are you Silver Chain?" "No," he said, and took off his sweaty t-shirt. Some mixture of incoherent gabbling and banter later (not helped by the fact he had the same name as BB) he let himself in before I could check his papers, so to speak.

It was OK, he was a policeman and friend (and cyclist), and apparently amused by my filial bristling. I don't know what I was doing, I just had some basic urge to protect and in the process lost my social skills.

Note to self: avoid automatic weapons.
