I liked it. Made me feel a little hungry at times, but it had some good old fashioned cartoon timing, and plenty of technical excellence. Better than I was expecting, actually.
I just thought of something, and it's related to expectations. One of the most annoying things about some recent animated features (Madagascar and Flushed Away leap to mind) is that the voice track seems divorced from the animation. Even where the animators have worked from the voice track and the moves are right, there's something illusion-shattering about the audio. It always seems to sound like a flat studio recording. Add to that the practice of recording actors in separate sessions and it can suck all the life out of a vocal performance.
In Rataouille though, I was completely unaware of this issue until well after the film was over. I want to go back and listen now to see if I can hear any sweetening in the mix.
BTW Rats in the dishwasher FTW :-)
