If you live in a world without normal human standards of flavour, red lentils (soaked and ever so briefly stir fried with a bit of butter) taste like peppery pumpkin.
I've been avoiding them--who needed another tasteless staple?--but was pleasantly surprised by the experiment. I got me fresh ideas!
