Reflexes are wonderful things.
It's amazing how quickly you can be catapulted into consciousness when your instinct insists that the cat a few inches from your face (a.k.a. Princess):

Tachycardia is such a refreshing way to come out of a nap. In defence of my sanity (and haven't we all said that today), I didn't believe I saw a tarantula the same size as Princess in my armpit. I actually saw two of them, both of reasonable size and one slightly smaller than the other. Like that helps.
On the bright side I didn't throw myself out of bed and break anything. This time.
