Mystery pretty rock of the day
Aug. 20th, 2011 10:49 pmI like this little quartz? thing. The crystals all seem to be clear but the base rock has interesting colours. Any tips for identification gratefully received. Even the correct terms to describe the growth habit would be helpful. It's a couple of centimetres long, wide, and tall (precision on request).

Pretty rock of the day: Unakite
Aug. 20th, 2011 11:15 pmThese are some quick reference pictures I took of one of the tumbled stones I picked up a few weeks ago. These were part of the reason I started the hunt for techniques to deal with reflections. It looks like it will be a while before this particular rock gets a second chance in the light box so take a look now.

I have an interesting piece of rock possibly called Botswana agate, but I call it eyeball agate. It's rounded and shiny and has interesting things going on inside. It responded very well to an outdoor shot with lots of lovely sunshine. Mostly.
