I'm thinking of shaving my head. Not in a Brittney Spears kind of way, more an early mid-life crisis perfectly rational kind of way. It would seem to save a lot of trouble.

First of all, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] krjalk for putting up your hand for a bit of "um, are you sure?" action, and to [livejournal.com profile] fredmouse and [livejournal.com profile] cricketk for just being you. You can indeed get away with murder if "it's for charity".

I must now point out that this was indeed an April 1st exercise, from which I confirmed, learned or at least may hypothesise the following:

I suck at this
I am a bad liar, even in text. I can deliver a line with a straight face, no regrets and to occasional effect, but I'm pretty sure that uses a different part of my brain than the bit that manufactures and delivers porky pies. Very literal minded creature am I, although there appears to be a loophole for comic effect. Oh for an MRI or PET of one's own.

That would explain my aversion to marketing hype.

Most people figured it out and chose not to comment
So you should. It was a shocker.

It was a bit too close to the bone and in poor taste
I've gone through some rough times lately and perhaps people believed it a little too much to be sure I was joking and at the same time were deeply concerned about my state of mind. sorry

No-one else was I don't think you really read these things paying attention
What??? The horror!!!

Bad brain.

Seemed perfectly reasonable. I honestly don't understand why people are so attached to their hair. It grows back, for deity's sake! And short hair is so much more convenient in every single circumstance.

As a general concept I agree with you absolutely. In my case, I lack the bone structure to support short hair and I've had pretty much the same long/curly/tinted look for the last 20 years and am pretty attached and allergic to change. I like to hide behind it. And when you treat it like that it doesn't seem to grow very quickly because you have to trim the ends all the time.

I was half blonde for a while there, in thick stripes.

Despite the vast amount of hair I have personally, I live in a world where head-shaving is a completely normal thing (you try being married to a butch dyke for 12 years), and therefore I had no idea there was anything odd about your suggestion.

Of course you'd suddenly decide to shave your hair off. My only thought was that it was a pity you hadn't decided to do it before your most recent perm, which would have saved you the expense.

My first reaction was "OMG, how can you possibly imagine that head-shaving would be nothing less than a sign that I had lost my marbles?"

And then I remembered that I currently have purple hair and lots of extremely large colourful tattoos. Not to mention the recent ear purchase and handful of corsets. Sometimes I forget all that :-)

None of the above. I know quite a few people who've shaved their heads recently, you seem to be exploring self image a bit at the moment, and besides, cutting off any amount of hair that can be grown back in less that two years just doesn't seem that drastic from where I'm standing :)

I also had comment fatigue, else I would have asked for more information about your inspiration.

I think "I suck at this" covers a clear lack of ability in the April Fool's department.

I confess I pulled back at the last moment and didn't want to suggest I was going to do anything too extreme... See comment re suckage above.

Never Again.

Never Again.

Or alternately you have some lessons learned for next time :)

I think it would be very interesting to see you with short hair! Besides, it can always grow back!

Practicality aside I love my long hair, but also someone deciding to shave theirs suddenly doesn't bother me in the slightest - it doesn't seem odd either.

*love*

Been there, done that, not surprised when others might to do it. It is very liberating.

I had a mental image of you with short but not nonexistent hair, and it could have looked worse. I didn't think you were totally serious, though, and was largely just taking the opportunity to reminisce about youthful idiocies.

Merete has threatened to leave me if I cut off my flowing locks for anything short of terminal alopecia. She does accept that the aging hippie bald-and-ponytail image would Not. Look. Good.

*grin* well, I think it was a good joke, and I don't mind being caught out - I know that I have a preference to believe people, and I'm happy to have it shown to be the case! If you had taken advantage of my credulity maliciously, I'd be much less happy though...

I think you'd be well within your rights to be cross if someone tries to take advantage of your good nature. Screw being "a sport," I'm very much against most forms of joke phone calls and practical jokes. If someone expresses dismay because they've just been told their mother is dead/they've lost their job/they're being deported/a plane has fallen from the sky/their fiance has broken off the relationship/etc I don't find that funny At All.

I find lots (and lots and lots) of things funny, but not that. Grrrr.

Sorry, got a bit ranty there thinking about commercial radio pranks. I've been unwell the last two days and am getting cabin fever.
