Last night I reported (relatively) briefly that I had fallen off a wall. As brevity is not a concept I willingly endorse in blogland, here's the long version.

The night was sultry. Alerted by my eldritch senses that lightning was at play in the atmosphere, I egressed from my domicile to peruse the heavenly vault. Surely enough, the western horizon was festooned with ribbons of light.

OK, maybe a little brevity is in order.

*resume*

I started to walk along the garden retaining wall to get a better view. I was watching my feet carefully, for in the semi-darkness and shadow fall it can be difficult to see the step. I was thinking quite specifically to myself that it would be a truly stupid thing to trip down that step in the darkness for the sake of a better view of lightning.

A bit of reconstruction is required at this point, for I suddenly found myself flapping about on my back in the garden. Given that I was down, and that the (really rather attractive) bullnosed cap stone was there with me I imagine that the stone gave way just as I was stepping off the edge, with all my weight on one foot. Fortunately, it was the garden side foot, and while bits of me managed to land on the edge of the displaced stone, most of me ended up in a fortunately large, springy and robust kangaroo paw. There are far worse plants in which to land, and praise be for another late pruning schedule, or it could have been rather less comfortable.

If I had stepped off on the other foot I might have gone down a couple of feet onto bricks, which would have been rather more unpleasant again.

I would like to add that I've walked along this wall many times, it being a de facto path, and when the capping was added it was *specifically* to be strong enough to walk on.

The tally stands at: twisted ankle (R), scraped wrist (L), bruised thigh (L), bruised hand (R) (not quite sure how that happened), flowers in hair, annoyance in soul. I still have bruised arm (R) from the weekend's effort.

EDIT: Found another bruise on my right arm and I forgot to list the scrape on the back of my left calf. No fingernails were harmed in the making of this static wordplay.

Awww... Hoping the ankle comes good soon. And it is all so much the worse for having happened whilst hunting storm-sign (a most noble and sought-after occupation).

But...

Am I a bad person for wanting to read the full faux-victoriana/mock-lovecraftian version?

Poor baby. My recommendation is ice and as you have so many sore bits , lots of it all over. Then you'll be so cold and shivering , you'll forget about the sore bits!
