Have just come home from seeing "The Sprit of the Horse" at Burswood. Along with a lot of other people, their cars, many small children and a bunch of people going to see the Motown show at the theatre. The infrastructure did not cope well.

There was much to like about the horse show: quite a lot of the El Caballo Blanco horses, including a nice duet between Andalusian and digareedoo. The USA/Country and Western theme was strong but not unmanageable, and at least they played Slim Dusty rather than some US guy. I enjoyed the trick riding more than I expected to.

The best bits were when the horses misbehaved. i.e. behaved exactly as they should under wildly stressful conditions. Go horsies. Three (human) falls, no apparent injuries.

There was an allegedly funny section where the horse spent much of his time lying on his back while some Yank flopped his (the horse's) hoofs around. That's not the spirit of any horse I've seen recently :-( Small children appeared to enjoy it, but I couldn't imagine how the horse had been trained to perform actions that had no basis whatsoever in natural horse behaviour.

A segment where someone led a mare around the arena while her foal frolicked was nice to watch, and had the soundtrack ("What a Wonderful World") been a recording of Louis Armstrong all would have been well. Unfortunately, it was a small child singing very loudly and distinctly off key, with a break for a loud and distinctly off key violin solo. Someone's daughter presumably.

As for husband... he'd been at work all day and had picked me up at my folks to drive to Burswood. We arrived at about 6:15pm for a 7:30pm show and there was no parking to be had. I ditched and left him to park at Belmont racecourse and catch a shuttle bus to Burswood. Afterwards we wrestled with the crowd (and fortunately only light drizzle) to catch the bus back and he drove us home, too tired to divert to M&D's house so I could get my car. That will be tomorrow. All would have been fine except his throat is now much more sore and he didn't particularly enjoy the show :-( I will now have to watch many obscure films to make up for tonight.
