A pretty rock of the day request I was able to fulfill was for Zebra stone. I've been looking for inspiration, and since the inspirational [livejournal.com profile] azhure is doing work related to Pink, the fact that the Zebra stone is pink made it a compelling choice. But I also wanted to add something more, so have some bonus pink apophyllite. Feel free to look at the sequence of rock posts to try and guess what led me from one to another.

Zebra stone (North Western Australia):

It's a sizeable rock about 6" across, too big and heavy to fit comfortably in the hand.

But I like to look at it.

And sometimes I do handle it, because we should all be pushed a little further than our limits.

Here, have some pink apophyllite:

Because the apophyllite is so common I don't think I ever had proper labels for any of them, so their source will remain a bit of a mystery. A geologist might be able to guess with the some of the more unusual pieces, of which this is not one. Perhaps that's why I feel comfortable and unchallenged by this stuff. It was never really beautiful in a way to capture the breath, but I was always fond of it. Insofar as one can be fond of--or indeed unchallenged by--a rock. Don't panic, no chakras here.

I'm going to have to get myself organised to take these photos in daylight. And when my hands aren't shaking.
